Masters Baseball
Over the last 10 years the more senior of the Bluejays have moved onto a whole new level of baseball. From ex players who can’t seem to kick the competative juices right through to couldabeens who have discovered our great game later in life, there is plenty of baseball still to be played.
Victorian Masters 2012
Kingsley Collins, Thursday, 21 July 2011
The sixteenth Victorian Masters Baseball Carnival will be held at Prince of Wales Reserve, Gillies Street, Ballarat in autumn 2012…….
The series will be conducted over three days – Friday 30 March to Sunday 1 April (inclusive).
This will be the weekend immediately after the completion of Baseball Victoria Summer League. It coincides with the start of the Victorian Term One School Holidays and is the weekend before the Easter Public Holidays.
Two age divisions will again be offered – 35 plus and 45 plus. All games will be played at Prince of Wales Reserve in Gillies Street.
The new marquee diamond is shortly to be completed – with fully synthetic infield and the ground lit to “AAA” standard. This will enable us to play night games. With up to twenty teams expected across the two divisions, night games are expected to be scheduled on the Thursday (for available teams) and the Saturday.
A night fixture may also be scheduled on the Friday night, although our preference is not to encroach upon the traditional social gathering for that evening.
The series is strongly supported by the City of Ballarat and the Ballarat Baseball Association, whose member clubs are again expected yo provide input for ground preparation and catering over the weekend.
More information will be posted over coming months, with team entries invited towards the end of 2011. No significant changes are expected to entry procedures, costs, rules and competition structure.
The City of Ballarat informs us that there are no other major events being held in Ballarat that weekend. However, participating teams are advised to organise themselves as early as practicable (see the Ballarat Accommodation and Tourism link to the bottom of our front page).
In the spirit of joint development of the Carnival since it began back in 1997, it is anticipated that the series will return to Geelong for 2013 and 2014 should the GBA and participating clubs desire.
